Annoyingly, it looks like I’m going fall short of 1500 miles this year. I think 44 miles in 12 days is a bit too big of an ask.

Which also means that 2016 will be the first year in 6 that I havent managed a “year-on-year” improvement.

Oh well, things could always be worse.

This weeks mileage = 5.14 + 3.80 + 4.13 + 3.47 + 5.27 + 1.90 = 23.71

A Last Hurrah…

I was determined achieve one final marathon-distance week of 2016.

And I did… just

Once again I headed out on a Sunday to soak up the mileage difference and just skirted by 27 miles.

Not bad going in the face of extremely freezing temperatures and a foot that was continuing to give me some grief.

My doctor reckons I have a mild-to-medium case of tendonitis in the foot and ankle and recommended a short course of pain killers to try and alleviate it. I’ll have to see how that goes.

This weeks mileage = 6.24 + 4.36 + 2.26 + 1.53 + 3.97 + 5.90 + 2.40 = 27.66

2016 Total to date = 1451.59 miles

Last Chance Saloon?

I pushed myself – and my errant foot – this morning to walk the Cincinnati riverfront.

Why? Well primarily because sub-zero temperatures are expected later in the week and I thought today may be my best hope of doing “one last river walk” in 2016.

It makes a difference, close to doubling the kind of daily mileages I’ve been achieving recently and giving me a good kickstart to the week. Weather will dictate things I’m sure but maybe I also have “one last marathon distance week” in me too?

Unlikely, but then thats been the story of my entire year!

This weeks mileage = 6.24 + 4.36 + 2.26 + 1.53 + 3.97 + 5.90 = 25.26

Baby Steps….

Last weeks mileage ended up being not too bad, considering. Just over 20 miles on a dodgy foot/ankle isnt to be sniffed at.

I did have a major manipulation by my chiropractor midweek, followed by an hour-long massage. The masseuse concentrated on my sinuses and my foot, making both feel decidedly better.

I’m trying to remember to do my daily foot exercises and my chiro recommended to me that I should be wearing my orthontics in both shoes, not just under the foot that is hurting. So I’m trying that too.

Today’s 4 1/2 miles wasnt too bad. The foot ached like hell on the last 1.4 mile walk of the day, maybe representing 1.4 miles too far on something that’s still healing?

Flourish Followed By Flourish

Last weeks walking ended with a slight flourish yesterday. A walk in lovely weather to Findlay Market and back made up the majority of the 2.85 miles I was able to do.

Again, not much of it was aerobic in quality as my right foot contintues to niggle and frustrate.

A similar story to kickstart this week’s efforts as well. A marginal improvement in distance over last week but hampered by the errant foot.

The flu/sinus issues have at least subsided a little which helps. However I did manage to ‘succesfully’ pass the rotten cold on to my poor wife who came home from work tonight sounding and feeling the same as I was. I guess I will have to pop on my nurses outfit and limp around the apartment to look after her and cater to her bedbound whims tomorrow. Damnit, that wont be aerobic either!

This weeks mileage = 4.22 + 2.00 + 3.86 + 4.60 + 3.86 + 2.62 + 2.05 = 22.21

Last Weeks “success”

A doubtless brief return to marathon distance ways last week, the result mainly of half-decent weather and a number of errands that needed to be run around town.

It all crashed to earth over the weekend when the weather turned more November-like – i.e. crappy – and tempeeatures dropped to just a few degrees above freezing.

Then as Sunday came around the sinusitis issues I’d been having transformed themselves into a full blown nasty cold, taking me by surprise and wiping me out physically and mentally.

And yes – despite sterling work by my chiropractor and his massage team – by foot remains painful and worrisome.

Hello winter, why dont you hurry up and go away?
